History

  • St. Joseph's Seminary, the first Korean seminary, was founded by Rev. Maistre at Baeron, Chungbuk. Province. Rev. Pourthie was installed as the first Rector.
  • St. Joseph's Seminary was closed under the Byeong-In Persecution.
  • St. Joseph's Seminary was reestablished at Bueonggol, Gangwon Province with the name of The Sacred Heart of Jesus Seminary.
  • The Sacred Heart of Jesus Seminary moved to Yongsan in Seoul.
  • The Sacred Heart of Jesus Seminary was divided into the major and the minor seminary.
  • The Sacred Heart of Jesus Seminary was stoped by the Japanese Government-General. Major Seminarians were transferred to The Deokwon Seminary.
  • The Sacred Heart of Jesus Seminary resumed at Hyehwadong, Seoul with the name of The Kyongsung Catholic Public Seminary.
  • The Seminary was elevated to the status of College and renamed as The Holy Ghost College.
  • The School of Medicine was opened.
  • The Holy Ghost College was renamed as The Catholic College.
  • Graduate School courses started.
  • Admission of lay students was permitted.
  • The Catholic College Press was opened.
  • The Pope John Paul II visited the Seminary.
  • Promoted to a university status and renamed as The Catholic University of Korea.
  • Merged with The Sacred Heart Women's University.
  • The Seminary's status changed from ��Inter-diocesan Major Seminary of Seoul�� to ��Archdiocesan Major Seminary of Seoul'.
  • The Graduate School of the Church Music was opened at Jungnimdong, Seoul.
  • The celebration of the 150th Anniversary of The Catholic University of Korea.
